I’ve been very excited by the first chapters contest at gather.com.
I’ve gotten a lot of good responses, including ones like:
“This is a great opening. I was thoroughly engaged and am now left wondering what the rest of the story will tell. Well written and appealing even though it’s not my typical genre. I really enjoyed it. Best of luck to you in the contest!“
Four people commented that they liked it even though it wasn’t from a genre that they normally read. Chapter Two is when the fantasy elements start coming into play in full force so I am curious to how well it will translate. It has been a nice bit of an ego boost for me as I’ve felt down about my writing in general the last month or so.
My Aunt Jan is very excited and loves the book. Over IM, Jan has started referring to the book as she since the book is almost alive to her. That made me blink a bit. This was the woman that didn’t bother to come to my college graduation even though I lived with her for years when I was growing up.
