The Highway West is progressing as a novel. I need to figure out what I want to do for the middle.

I have the first third fairly squared away. It’s a solid act one. The protagonists have been gathered/manipulated by their spirit guide to Seattle. It’s been revealed that roughly ten years ago, the bad guys cast a ritual that locked away the Blue Lady. The Blue Lady is the personification of hope in the city of Seattle and since then, the city has lost its hope and the bad guys have been able to subtly influence the city to their purposes.

The last third of the novel is devoted to resolving this and freeing the people of Seattle to make their own choices.

My problem is that it feels like I need a little more in the middle. I’m looking at each of the characters and making sure they have their own mini-story. I’m trying to figure out the best way to fill that middle ground.
